also has areas for lake-shore camping and picnicking. The town of Eureka is located on the Tobacco River in an area known as the Tobacco Valley. Eureka was founded in the early 1880's as settlers moved north from Missoula and south from Canada. The Canadian fur trapper and explorer David Thompson visited the Tobacco Valley in the early 1800's during his search for a route to the Pacific Ocean. Eureka holds a "Rendezvous" every year in April to commemorate his visit. Because of the location of the valley in relationship to the mountains, this area is known as a "Banana Belt", the climate is exceptional for outdoor living.
